The Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation (CCRF) is pleased to announce that President George H.W. Bush will serve as honorary chairman for the foundation's Jump! Shout! Skydive fundraiser on Saturday, September 27 at Skydive Spaceland Houston as part of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
"There's no one better to represent the Jump! Shout! skydive challenge than President Bush," said Greg Anderson, Founder & CEO, CCRF. "President Bush is still jumping out of planes at the age of 90 and his intrepid spirit represents exactly the kind of bravery and commitment that those affected by childhood cancer embody every day. We are deeply honored to have him as our honorary chairman of this important event."
President and Former First Lady Bush lost their 3-year-old daughter, Robin, to Leukemia in 1953. Since then, President Bush has actively supported causes in the fight against childhood cancer and signed a proclamation in 1990 establishing National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. He shaved his head last year in support of the son of a member of his Secret Service detail, who had recently begun losing his hair as a result of cancer treatment.
At the Jump! Shout! skydiving fundraiser, CCRF is planning to break the current Guinness World Record of 251 tandem jumps in one location at Skydive Spaceland-Houston in Rosharon, Texas. This thrilling experience comes at no cost to those participants who raise between $300 and $499. Those who raise more than $500 also jump at no cost and receive a complimentary video of the jump to share with friends and family. The funds raised will benefit Houston area children's cancer treatment centers and the Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation.
